DAYTONA

The original Cosmograph Daytona, produced in small quantities from 1963 to the late 1980s, has become a highly sought after collectible. It's a stylish icon associated with automobile racers and movie stars such as Paul Newman, whose name has become synonymous with the rarest Daytona dial.

ROLEX DAYTONA 6239 1.4M SERIAL RED DAYTONA STEEL

Here is an early Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, from 1965, with the very rare dial variant with the word “DAYTONA” printed in red, arching over the lowest subdial. Normally, on 6239s ‘DAYTONA’ is either not present or is printed below ‘COSMOGRAPH’ at the top of the dial. Rarely, “DAYTONA” is found printed arching over the lowest subdial, and then it is almost invariably in matching print with the rest of the dial printing. Literally, only a few 6239s are known to exist with red print DAYTONA on original, untouched dials.

Original stainless steel case measures 36mm diameter by 14mm thick. Plastic crystal. Screw down crown is original and operating perfectly. Round pump-style chronograph pushers are also operating crisply and the chronograph hands all reset accurately to their zero positions. The case is in exceptional original condition. We are tempted to call in never polished but there is a chance Rolex polished it once in its past. Serial number 1463XXX dates production of this watch to 1965.

Very rare original silver with red DAYTONA dial is untouched, with contrasting black subdials, and original hands.

Original movement is the manual winding Rolex Caliber 72B with 17 rubies and column wheel construction. The movement is in clean, running condition.

Bracelet is a reference 7205 riveted Oyster bracelet.
